Inner Shadow
“Westerners are funny – they think the sun shines on all parts of their body at the same time.” - Anonymous Buddhist Monk
The poet, Robert Bly, describes us as having a 360
degree personality when we are born. Through our domestication, we learn what parts of us are acceptable and which are not. In order to feel accepted into society we feel the need to hide the shameful parts of ourselves, leaving us with only the ‘acceptable’ fragments as we enter adulthood. Carl Jung referred to the hidden parts as the Inner Shadow.
A Shadow side exists in all of us. Do you know what yours is? Most of us don’t. Exploring our Shadow is one of the most important areas in personal development. What is it? How does it show up in our lives today?
By doing the work around discovering our Inner Shadow we learn to accept it so it does not seep into unwanted areas of our life. Not only will you open up to a deeper understanding of yourself, you may experience a deeper understanding of your relationships with others, especially those who challenge you.
Liminal Space acknowledges the importance of the Shadow in personal development and uses it as a tool for understanding in all areas of our work.
